Dr. Cara Hollander obtained her BA. Speech and Hearing Therapy, Masters in Audiology and PhD degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand. She was part of the prestigious South African Medical Research Councils, Prof. Bongani Mayosi/Public Health Enhancement Fund’s (PHEF) scholarship program aimed at combating TB and HIV.
Through her PhD within the field of pharmacokinetics, ototoxicity and infectious diseases, she developed a mobile application aimed at assisting health care professionals in managing hearing loss related to ototoxicity. Cara has presented multiple times internationally and nationally, and won various scholarships and awards throughout her degrees.
She has published internationally, and has been the external examiner for various dissertations for Master’s Degrees in Clinical Pharmacy. Dr. Hollander has lectured and supervised Audiology students at the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as has been involved as editor of the South African Speech Language and Hearing Associations' annual Communiphon. She currently is still a part time employee in the Audiology Department at Wits. Further, she has worked within the private sector for over 10 years, where she has become skilled with all the cutting-edge technology to assist all ages with hearing loss. Cara has focused mainly on managing hearing loss within adults, and thus has become specialised with this populations specific needs.
